ok, so as much as i really don't want to boast, and as much as nothing is even that close to being final, i figure that i will broadcast to the diaryland world that which is the general sherman miracle thus far, all to the glory of God. as you will see, there is really nothing that we have done to get us to where we are. everything has been some sort of "chance happening" sort of thing, or whatever you want to call it. here is the story thus far, as i know it.

in august or something like that dana and i started playing music together. it was just two of us at first (her on guitar, myself on drums), but she had a few ideas so we threw some songs together. a month or so later we played with becca (piano/vocals), who had some more ideas, so we roughly threw a couple more songs together. and another month or so later, we added sean on bass and we were grooving. we played a few shows and did alright. some were better than others, but we had fun. somewhere in there i decided that i was going to kinda drop everything and go to bible college in oregon for a bit. we decided that we liked our music and that we wanted to record as much of it as we could before i left. in my mind, this was sort of a keepsake. i was't totally sure what my next move would be after bible college, so my mindset was that i may or very possible may not play with general sherman again, that i may or may not return to iowa. it was up in the air.

the first big miracle, for me at least, was luke and scott, two friends of ours from the amazingly rocking band "the envy corps". luke had just bought all this recording equiptment and for some reason decided that he and scott would record us for free. they were such a huge blessing. they toated all of their equipment to dana's house and we spent a weekend laying down as much as we could before i left. i left the following wendesday. i think it was a wednesday.

somewhere in there (dana may remember the exact date, i think it was in december around the time of recording) dana's mom met a record scout for warner brothers records on an airplane flying back to des moines. i guess they hit it off pretty well and are friends now. while they were chatting it came up that dana has a band, and heather's (the record scout) intrest was piqued. heather wanted to hear the "demo", as it has been called from that point on.

about two weeks ago luke and dana finished the mixing on the demo and dana sent it down to heather at WB. we were absolutely clueless as to what was going to happen next. i think that i can pretty acurately say that we didn't really have any expectations. whatever happens happens, eh? yeah. well she actually liked it, quite a bit i guess, and forwarded it on to craig, an/the A&R, for reprise records, which is a branch of WB. The A&R (artist and repertoire) is the guy in charge of signing and promoting bands on a lable. we understood that just because heather liked us didn't mean that craig would nessicarily like us. there was a decent chance that craig may never think twice about general sherman, or never even listen to our demo at all.

today dana called me. she had news from heather. i guess craig is interested. how interested i am not totally sure, but interested. the fact that he even talked to heather about us is HUGE! i guess now they need more. more on us and more time. our next step is to come up with a press kit, and i guess they are going to liten to our demo more and circulate it around the office some and see what people think. in-sane.

oh yeah. eisley is on reprise. friday dana went to see eisley and ended up talking to boyd and jonathan from the band, both of whom, i guess, know craig personally. they said they would put a little plug in to craig for us. and i guess that when craig talked with heather, he hadn't yet heard a plug from boyd or jonathan.

so yeah. my head is spinning right now. who knows what will happen. who knows. it could go, and it may not. all that i know is that this has all happened insanely fast, and that nearly every step has been a miracle of some sort. i don't know what you believe about God, but it looks to me like the big dude has his hand in on this. we budged in front of hundreds of bands that would kill to get their music to an A&R. we'll have to wait and see what happens. and pray.

not my will, but yours be done.

oh yeah, we would be lablemates with fleetwood mac and the flaming lips. i just had to throw that in.

so that's the good news. peace.
