last night for the second time, i went to the celtic jam at one of the coffee shops here in town. it is one of the coolest things i have ever been to. it is about 15-20 people sitting in a circle and playing all sorts of irish jigs and such. most of them have fiddles, bhu there was also an acordian, two guitars, a mandolin, a banjo or two, celtic hand drums and a flute/wistle. they go in a circle and take turns starting a song, and everyone jumps in right away playing the song. my favorite part is when it gets to the hand drumers. they sing. it's usually acapella, but every now and then someone will start playing with them. and they sing with such character(and the irish accent too). when they sing about the seas, you belive that they they sailed on the whaling ships and sang the same songs while the storms where tossing the ships back and forth.
